Church Attendance
Every Christian church has its own culture and way of being. Hopefully all are centered around Jesus and Lord and Savior, his Word to us, and our worship and obedience to Him.
However, it has become the trend in many churches to see less than 50% of their "membership" at any given worship service. In fact - there it is now "normal" for 30-40% of church "members" to be almost completely inactive and uninvolved.
Why is this? I have some ideas but I would like to get some feedback on this.
Of course the follow up question is - Is there anything that can be done about this phenomena?

People aren't connected to much any more. Civic clubs, churches, political parties, all have seen a dramatic drop since the 1950s.
So I don't think the church is any more effected than other American institutions.
There are many factors that are forcing Americans apart. The question is, how do we get back together. And will the church play a part in that reconstruction movement.
Yup you did change the access to post.
What I thought of from your post was the place and reality of the US Church. It is largely irrelevant to people’s day-to-day lives. It is simply a clubhouse and not a Kingdom place of transformation. We as the Church have lost our way and need to ask Jesus as the Lord of the Church to turn us around again. And I begin by pointing my finger at myself as my faith is far too lukewarm than Christ would want. Yet it must come from Him. We cannot work up faith.
When I look at the "growth" in my congregation, it is from transfers. Don't get me wrong I am glad they are here, but in my 4.5 years in this congregation we have had only one adult baptism. We are not reaching the "unchurched". The "unchurched" don't give the Church a second thought as they once did 50-100 years ago in the US. Therefore our faith must compel us to go to them, which is nothing new since this is Christ's charge for the Church (Matthew 28:16-20, John 20:21, etc.)

In checking this blog area, it seems nothing much has happened recently, so I will post another question.
Has anyone been listening to all the hype about the book by Tolle called "A New Earth"?
What is your opinion of the ideas of this book in relationship to your Christian life??
Please know that Christians everywhere are praying for your former pastor, and for those Christians who left your congregation to follow our Lord, read his inerrent word, and trust in God alone. We are also praying for those of you who remain behind in the apostate PCUSA party.
